Blog #6

Hello! Sorry for the delay in getting the blog up. I was in Galveston at the Conference for Advancement of Science Teaching and had technical difficulties! Please remember to bring your homework assignment from last week (bring your version of your anticipatory set with student samples for group share out and review). Your Marzano work packet is Due Decemeber 1st. Feel free to turn it in early (Thanks Al! ;->). I will be reviewing what your final assessment piece for this portion of your training will be like on Monday night as well so please be on time and ready to go for class!
1. Click on the link below.
http://www.tea.state.tx.us/
2. Click on "A-Z Index."
3. Select the T
4. Scroll down and choose "TEKS-Texas Knowledge and Skills"
5. Scroll down and select your subject area or grade level TEKS (do you teach everything? Then choose the TEKS that you are least familiar with then)
6. Print your TEKS document and bring it to class with you from now on.
7. How many paragraphs are in your introduction?
8. How many TEKS do you have in your grade level or content area?
9. How many Knowledge and Skills Statements do you have?
10. Are your TEKS up for revision this year or next (you may need to consult the first TEKS page to be sure)?
Thanks for your time! See you Monday night at 6pm!

  28. I teach Pre-K and like others have stated we do not have TEKS but Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines that help us prepare our lesson plans. There are 10 domains in the Pre-K guidelines which have already been stated. To be honest I had never seen these guidelines until this assignment. Usually the Pre-K teachers of my school get together and make the lesson plan. Since I am teaching Pre-K (3 year olds) our main focus is mainly on structure and getting them adjusted to the school atmosphere.

  31. well since im the only art teacher in my highschool im in charge of art 1,2,3 9th - 12th so i am pretty busy all day..lol.. actually im the only art teacher in the whole pisd. well looking at my teks i have a plate full of responsibility and in all the introductions for art 1 through 3 is about two paragraphs in each. the knoweledge and skills statments are all the same 4 in each. They just get more in depth as you move up in the levels of art.. by the time you hit art 3 and 4 you should be a independant art creating machine. the one thing that is difficult to me is getting some of the students to realize that art is a big factor in thier highschool experience becuase it strikes thier creative side of the brain.. without art this world would be a bland boring place with no color in life and mind... it be all numbers..lol BORING..
i dont think my teks are coming upfor review.. the only thing i did hear was that when they do away with the taks every subject will give thier kids a content test to see if they are grasping the information alotted to them...
