Hello! I hope your week has been productive and powerful in your corner of the education world. Here is the link to this week's article. Read it and then answer the following questions.
http://newteachersupport.suite101.com/article.cfm/how_to_motivate_students

1. In your own terms define motivation.
2. Describe your "teacher attitude."

60 comments:

  1. Motivation for me is the ability to get my students in the right frame of mind to learn. They need to be paying attention to me and listening to me not other things going on in the room. I try to get things organized as soon as they walk in they know the routine and they have breakfast and go to P.E. and then when they return it is time to learn, a small clip of music (hook) and they look up and I have the lesson ready. The weak learners have the para's help and have some "essence" learning built in. they all get praised as we go along, with a lot of encouragement and support. My teacher attitude is one of "respect" I respect my students and my para's and myself. I have faith in their abilities and I try to convey that in all ways possible I maintain a positive attitude throughout the day. Occasionally a "Lord help me through this day" comes out but I try and never let them see me sweat!

  2. I think that the environment in the classroom has a big effect on my kids' motivation. Sometimes it is so great to see one of the kids finally catch on to something new, and when they let their excitement show, I see others get excited too. Today kids were all reciting multiples and I'm sure you could hear us up and down the hall. They feed off each other sometimes. They're also very motivated when they feel like the assignment is one they can master. Many of my students will shut down if they struggle too hard with something.
I'm still trying to determine my "teacher attitude", but at this ppoint I would say I'm like the strict mom. I always tell my kids I've missed them and it's good to see them. I am patient with them but I expect alot from them. I tell them all the time that I think it's my role to teach them more than just math. I insist they say please and thank you, and use correct English. My students are 6th graders, so they are in a big transition this year. They still need lots of reassurance but they have to be pushed to the next level.

  3. Motivation is getting the students to realize why they need to learn the material I'm presenting to them and in turn, producing a desire to then learn that material. My "teacher attitude" I think would be firm but nice. I do tend to say things when I'm frustrated, only to undo it later only when I see the kids behaving as I want them to, which mightbe bad, which may or may not be a good thing, I don't know. That's just who I am I guess... I try to make math as fun as I can by joking around alot with the kids. I've established pretty good relationships with most of the kids and I'm trying to work on better relationships with the quiet ones who don't speak up in class.

  4. Motivation in a Behavior Unit is a lot different than a normal classroom. It's all about bribs. You have to find out what each student wants so you can get them to work for it. I have a school store set up with snacks, drinks and toys that they can purchase with the points they earn. The Special Ed department gives me money for my supplies. I use this even while they are out in regular classes. If a teacher is having trouble with a particular student they call me and let me know they didn't earn any points or to hold their rewards for a while. Most of these Junior High boys are motivated by food.
As far as my teacher attitude, I have an easy time relating to most of these students. I had my behavior issues and childhood problems growing up. I don't take anything they say or do personally. I try to understand their mental illness and realize they usually can't help it and within an hour or so they have forgotten all about whatever happened that got them in trouble. We start the day off fresh and don't hold any grudges.

  5. “Motivation” is an abstract noun etymologically and syntactically related to English motive and moving (cf. Middle Latin motivus; Latin movere). Both motivation and motive are used to describe the cause of a psychological effect in a person that necessarily results in an action arising from that person. As pertains to education, a student’s motivation is the reason behind a student’s will to engage in a learning activity.

My “teacher attitude” is one that stems from my engagement with life. Specifically, what I have controlled of my attitude has been determined in large measure by my areas of research, their related criticisms, and my personal experience. I’d like to classify my teacher attitude as being in line with my operative theology, namely, a theology of grace. I believe that every single human being is equally precious—despite any failure—in the eyes of God. I hope that my actions and attitude—even in the imposition of consequences for broken rules—reflect this value that I believe God has placed on each of my students.

  6. I am a special education teacher and have several behavioral students. My students are included in the general ed. classroom. Motivation is a challenge for most of my students on a daily (hourly) basis. I use incentives with my students. This is real life though. We all have incentives to do what we need to do (these can be intrinsic, extrinsic or both such as a paycheck and the satisfaction of making a difference). With my students I work very hard to incorporate their individual likes into the lesson plans. I have a student that loves planes and I am amazed at all the different lessons we can do using planes.
My teacher attitude is to be positive with my students always and engaged in what they doing. My attidude directly impacts the relationship and whether or not they want to work for me.

  7. Motivation to me is getting your students to be involved and interested in what you are trying to get across. Motivated to want and be ready for each new day and new lessons. I am a special ed teacher, life skills, and motivation is a huge part throughout the day for me, and my students. Teacher attitude, is all about how I view teaching, and my attitude is to be inspiring, encouraging, open, patient, firm, and much much more. I have the attitude, that you don't have a disability, I have a challenge to overcome. They all are expected to do all the work in my class, no excuse, they and myself have to be willing to do what we are there for, to learn....

  8. Motivation is the desire to do, whether it be learning, achieving, succeeding, etc. It is what drives us to want to succeed and do well.
My teacher attitude has to be upbeat and enthusiastic...if not, there will be no motivation for my students.

  9. Motivation is an ongoing process of getting your students to do something. As a teacher, I use different strategies to get my students to do what is expected. For example, incentives, free choice centers, treasure box, display of work, etc. Using motivation strategies is good because the student is learning and participating in his or her education.
The "teacher attitude" must be positive, with a smile, and active at all times. If a teacher is having a bad day, put a smile on your face. Students know when their teacher is having a good or bad day.

  10. My definition: Motivation is what finds me delightfully fighting for something I want or something I need. I can be extremely motivated when there is a certainty that the outcome will be exactly (or pretty close to) what I had hoped for— a wish come true. I also believe that motivation generates energy, and that this energy is what drives our efforts to reach, to gain, to learn, or to do anything.
No doubt in my mind that motivation and success are intimately connected. No sense in trying if nothing comes of it. The trick is to find the right carrot to hang at the end of the stick.

My Teacher Attitude: To teach my students successfully, I truly believe that a sense of mutual trust must exist. Since I have never worked with these young adults, ever, I need to connect with each one of them. I sense that we will be better served if we can develop a sense of wanting to work together. (I am here to teach and you are here to learn. I care about you, and you trust that I care about you.) It really works. Spending time with each student individually has done the trick. (I can afford to, since I have 7 students-- with severe cognitive disabilities.) Everyone is happy to come to school every day, and though we work very hard, there is a sense of team effort. We all win. We all play. We all succeed. We trust each other.

  11. Motivation is what every teacher tries to encourage and bring out of their students. I try to motivate my students by using positive praise, incentives, and by talking to my students on a one on one level. By motivating your students and showing them that you are taking interest in them will help them want to succeed. My teacher attitude is positve as soon as I walk in the door. Whatever is happening in my life I leave at the door and focus on my kids. My students know when I am having a bad day or when I am feeling out of my norm. They use this to test your weakness and to see how far they can get away with.I teach my students that having a positive attitude will take you far in life and make life run smoothly.

  12. Motivation is naturally understood as an 'effort' to learn - coming from withing or from outside - so much missing in all the math classes around the country, unfortunatelly, I would say. Personally, I was always motivated to study, as my four degrees somehow prove it, but not everybody is motivated, especially today, and especially in sciences and mathematics. Kids generally despise the school and hate math, because they cannot understand it instantly with an immediate satisfacion of a video or sport-game. I know that external motivation in showing the pragmatic application of math can eventually help, but the problem I see is that students do not "fear" any consequences of failure at all. I strongly believe that any motivation should be connected to a safe and good fear of not-succeding. The motivation of a student in a math class should be at least "pass the final mandatory test and get over it", but I don't see that neither. We have definitely lost the beauty and appreciation of knowledge just for the value and personal beauty of 'knowing the things'. On the other hand, through the enthusiasm and high professionalism of a good teacher some students cen get motivated eventually, I still believe that.

  13. I find that my students are motivated by the usefulness of what I am teaching. I try to begin new concepts with a "real world" application. If they are interested, they are motivated. Many of the math concepts they have learned in the past are taught without thought of how they will use it one day.

I also find that parents are a huge motivater of their children. Some strive simply to make sure mom & dad are happy with their grades. As for the students that do not have that parental backup, (and I have a few) I am still trying to find a connection to motivate them.

As for my teacher attitude, my class revolves around RESPECT. I remind them that it is earned. I treat you with respect, if you treat me with respect. Middle school students often need a moment to reflect on their actions, then they realize how they sound to others. As my mother always said, "You should treat others the way you would like to be treated yourself."

  14. My definition of "motivation" is the encouragement to learn by presenting exciting material and the demeanor in which it is presented to the students. In order to motivate students to want to learn, the material presented should be interesting, exciting, motivating, and relate-able. Students do not want to go to school and be bored. The teacher should present the information in a way that they can relate to their students and figure out how to keep their attention. Motivation is the key to keeping students wanting to learn more.

My "teacher attitude" (since working with Pre-K) is always to be bubbly, excited about teaching and loving. Depending on the grade you teach, your "teacher attitude" is different. Since I am teaching Pre-K 3 teacher they are still babies and still need the loving attention that a parent gives. You always have to have patience with them and show that you care for each of them.

  15. Motivation comes from within my students and how I can help them get motivated. There are many different personalities in my classroom. Some students already have this drive in them. For others, If I get excited about teaching they get excited about learning too. When my students are motivated and engaged in learning I have less disipline problems. My students are excited to come to school and this makes their parents happy. My "Teacher Attitude" is that it is my job to motivate my students to appreciate and value learning/ Education. If I instill these values at an early age they will continue to see the benefits of an education.

  16. Motivation is the force that allows individuals to carry on through activities, daily situations, and or specific objectives. I motivate my students by providing them with lots of positive reinforcements, a theme hook, and an explanation of why we are going to do such thing. My teacher attitude is based on the belief that I will get in return whatever I put in. If I start my day being positive, cheerful, enthusiastic, and alert my students will feed on that energy, and they will behave and react in a much more positive way. My teaching attitude changes according to different situations, and to the reactions of different students.

  17. I would define motivation as a desire to do or to accomplish something. I was observed a couple of weeks ago and in my evaluation, it said I was "firm, but friendly." I was really happy with that statement. I greet all my students as they walk in my class and most of them even wave me down during passing periods when they are going to different classes, but when the bell rings, the students know its time to work. My favorite aspect of teaching so far is learning more and more about my students as people, and really developing those personal relationships. I think that they will be much more motivated to work in my class if they know I care about them and what's going on in their lives.

  18. Wow! You guys are amazing! Thanks for having such excellent teacher attitudes! I agree Rebecca...firm but friendly is the way to be in the classroom. See you all Monday night!

  19. Motivation is the process in which the students are in a learning mode and comprehend the lesson at hand. This learning mode is hard to come by especially when there are disruptive students, but with the right technique and prayer(s), the students can get into it. I understand that it's up to me to get them into this mood and right frame of mind. My "teaching attitude" is a positive one, I believe, in that I want them to learn what I'm trying to teach. I try to emphasis the importance of paying attention in order to learn. The end result is when the assessments are completed. Up to now they haven't been to good. So I know that even though it's my first year I have to do a better job.

  20. Motivation is what gets me out of the door every morning and part of my job as a teacher to provide my students will all the tools available to motivate them to be interested in history and social sciences. My teacher attitude is to do or say whatever it takes to be the best teacher possible. I will attend every seminar possible on becoming a better educator, stay current on my subject, and participate in the school's and community's extra curricular activities.

  21. Motivation is the drive to get work done. Being motivational is very important in today's classroom because many children are not as driven to succeed in the classroom as in generation's past.
My "teacher attitude" is tough to nail down because it is so easy to lose focus during rough days, but I always try and stay positive and willing to help each student achieve their goals and those that I put forth for them.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Motivation in my classroom begins with positive reinforcement. I would rather have my kids work toward their goals based on positive feedback rather than negative reinforcement. When I see that they are making connections I make it a point to let them know they are learning. For instance a student this week said "Benedict Arnold was kinda like Aniken Skywalker going over to the dark side, right?" I about fell over. Those moments are MY motivation.

I like to keep a positive teacher attitude. I wear many hats on my campus and I am completely overwhelmed on a daily basis. My kids and their parents, however, have no idea. This makes everyones day run smoother, including mine.

  23. Motivation is a critical part of teaching, as it must first come from the teacher/instructor her/himself! Like any profession, teaching is sometimes very difficult because there are so many variables: student needs, their environment and homelife, tedium, lack of effort and concern (student and teacher), personal problems, and many other facets which can make the teaching environment challenging. However, motivation is such a key element that it HAS to be primary in our daily work and schedule as teachers. I love teaching and I find myself trying to use positive reinforcement as my "montra".

    ReplyDelete
  24. Motivation
I feel that motivation is something that a person puts into achieving a goal. It can be for money, fame, or for personal satisfaction. For students, the effort should be for personal satisfaction or a goal, such as graduation from school. As teachers it is our job to help students get motivated and try and stay that way. Many students are motivated by role models, such as parents or teachers and that is why it is important for teachers and parents to work together to form positive influences on students. Another factor is providing students with a safe environment to learn as well as providing them reinforcement to try to learn without the fear of failure or ridicule that can be associated with failure. Teachers need to be alert to each student’s abilities and strengths in the learning process and try to direct the proper process or technique to each student’s needs and abilities. This can hopefully get better learning responses from the students by enhancing their attention and retention of the material presented. Encouragement that is provided by the teacher will reinforce the process. I feel that teachers should try to form achievement or goal oriented relationships with students to help them follow through with their learning process.

    Teacher Attitudes
A teacher’s attitude can not only affect themselves but their students as well. A bad attitude can also destroy a teacher’s motivation. Without their motivation, they are doomed to fail. I consider myself a professional and have confidence in my skills as a teacher. That does not mean that I have nothing left to learn, but that I can conduct myself in a meaningful and productive way in my classroom. I attempt to present myself well through the way I dress and keep myself and my classroom organized and prepared. I want to continue to learn through workshops, continuing university education and my fellow teachers in order to be able to provide my students with the best information and teaching techniques possible. I am open to sharing ideas and working extra hours to achieve my goals as an effective teacher and to show my students that learning is a continual thing that must be constantly pursued if you want to succeed in life. I like being able to make my own choices, rather than being told by administrators that I must do this or that and I try to impress upon my students that continued learning helps give you opportunities to make many of you own decisions. I try to be open-minded about teaching techniques so that I do not get stuck doing something that is not effective, just because I have become familiar with it and it is easier for me. I want to be able to identify areas that I need to adjust for the benefit of my students and their success at learning.

  25. I have learned in this short time that motivation is the key and most students are lacking. I have several students that don't receive motivation at home so as their teacher I am the only person they have rooting for them every day. I have expectations for my students and strive to help them all reach them and have them set their own expectations. With out the student's motivation to learn my lesson becomes background noise as wander into space.

My teacher attitude is to be positive, setting a positive enviornment in my room, and expecting and rewarding positive behaviors from my students. I am there for them and remind them all the time. I need to know their questions and where they need more information before we continue with lessons.

  26. Motivation is what makes any of us do anything and everything! Motivation comes in many different forms, dependent upon what needs to be accomplished! Personally, I hope to motivate my students, my own children and even myself, to ALWAYS be self motivated! It is always worht it. They need to believe that they are always worth it! Hard work truely pays off! And no matter the outcome...the motivation that came from within to get it done always feels great. Be self motivated!

My teacher attitude is an upbeat one! I want the kids to know that I am happy to be there! I want them to be happy to be there and to bring a positive attitude...I think that startes with me! No matter what kind of morning they've had, prior to getting to school, our day begins together the moment they walk through that door. My teacher attitude, in a nutshell, is one of mutual respect for each other, every day is a new one that is full of possibilities...you get out what you put in!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Motivation to me is about desire and desire can be learned. It is up to me, as the teacher, to try and motivate my students to study and learn. The best way I can do this is to be motivated myself. Students can see this. My attitude would be one of respect, understanding, and expectations. Attitude is so very important.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Motivation to me is about the desire to better yourself. Whether it be in a sense of a healthier lifestyle, spirituality, or in this case, educationally, we must all find a source of motivation to help free ourselves of being content. My self motivation is that I stay new and fresh with times and content so that I may reach my students in the best way possible and to understand them fully. Coming from my background, the only way to get to where i've been and currently am at, is through self motivation to make a better life. My attitude of doing whatever it takes, being a good person, understanding, and not being content is what has helped me through the years and is what I preach alot to my kids. ATTITUDE and RESPECT come hand in hand.

  29. Motiviation to me is getting that one student the incouragement to create somthing that he thought he couldnt. As a teacher you want to motivate your class to be the best they can be in school and out of school. Be able to leave your class knowing that you left it all in the classroom and you didnt take any shortcuts to get the day done quicker.

my attitude as ateacher is a positive one. i have a good repor with my students they respect me and some students have actyually told me that i am thier role model. to me that is weird to hear because i dont think of myself as one i just try and be the best man that i can everyday. some days are harder then others when i have students that try and test me as a individual but i keep my smile on and try and stay upbeat because its not fair to the students that actually wanna learn in the class. if your haveing a bad day and you bring it in the class you will fail regardless if your students do thier work or not simply because your bringing drama into the class that doesnt pertain at all to the lesson. i go by this saying if your start the day bad try and end it on a good note.

  30. Motivation for each of us in life, regardless of the situation, is the desire (or lack therof) to want to do your best; learn the most; and be all you can be.
My attitude is one of caring about each student, not just about their grades. It is relating to the whole person, understanding that they have good and bad days and being there for them through each. Hoping each classroom day for them can give them something to take away.

  31. To me, motivation is the one thing that will help you succeed in life. In order to succeed you have to want it. As a teacher I try to encourage my students to succeed with their studies.

I always have a positive attitude. When students come to my room, no matter what mood I am in, I always stay positive and caring. You have to draw a line between being a friend and being an athoratative figure. I do both and still earn respect from them.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Motivation is the ability to use the students needs and wants to help give the quality education they deserve.

As a BI teacher, I use positive redirection, reinforcement and give positive words of encouragement on a daily basis.

  33. Motivation, to me, is putting maximum effort to achieve a particular goal. With my students, the key to getting them motivated is tying in what I am teaching into their life and how it can affect them. I also motivate them by showing how I’m motivated about teaching them and how much I care for their learning and their success. The most important thing I can do to motivate them is to make sure that the materials that I am teaching them is taught in a way they can understand it and master it. If they still don’t understand, then it is my responsibility to find other ways to make them understand. When a student sees a teacher do that, I believe it motivates a student to do well.

My attitude is always a positive attitude. When the students see that I have a positive attitude, it also gives them a positive attitude. As a new teacher, its been very hectic and sometimes hard to have that attitude, but its something that I strive for everyday. The attitude that I also try to have is to make every student feel like they matter. Its hard to that sometimes, but I try my best to really get to know my students and show them that I care about them.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 1. Motivation to me is when you feel like you have to complete a goal so that you do not let somebody down.
    2. My "teacher attitude" is willingness plus ability equals success. I tell my students this and let them know that the more willing they are to learn the more abilities they will learn. I tell my students that they have to try no matter what and always do thier best. We compete often and I tell them that if you are going to play, you might as well win.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Motivation to me is knowing a child is motivated by the look in their eyes. They long to know more and ask questions to get that information for extra knowledge. I have an open mind to finding out what works for my students. Even if it takes a week, two weeks, I search for how I can get them to work.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Motivation is what makes you tick. Its a mixture of energy and passion or a desire or need to do our absolute best. Its a stimulation of the adrenal glands and burst of fury that enables you to know you can do whatever you set mind to do. Whether you are doing it for yourself or someone else, motivation is what keeps you going.

My "teacher attitude" starts with an open mind, lots of respect, and a positive attitude. Every time a kid complains, I try to help them see the good in every situation. I also try to mix in the coach attitude. If you failed, you didn't try hard enough. If you didn't study, how can you expect to win? If you are not prepared, how can you play or be effective? Did you do your absolute best on the test or could you have done better? And finally, if you don't show up, why should I care? I try to incorporate a sense of responsibility with dash of high expectations and a pinch of sympathy. So I come across as confident, but not arrogant, and my students seem to be comfortable with that and appreciate it.

  37. -Motivation is what drives you.

-My teacher attitude is that no matter their behavior or level of understanding, every studentcan learn. You just have to try different strategies to reach them.

  38. Motivation is a persons drive to do get things done. All people can be motivated, its just a matter of finding that something that creates that spark.

My Teacher Attitude is that I try to keep my classroom realatively light-hearted, but I am very stern with my kids that try to take advantage of that. I am still quite young and I use that to connect with my kids.

  39. Motivation - the ability conquer a goal. Be it learning, or just doing the dishes after a long days work.

Teacher attitude - I would be lying if I said my attitude doesn't change on a daily basis. As a whole I strive to be self motivated everyday, and excited about what I'm doing. I coach HS Football as well, and thus far we haven't done as well as I would like. It's tough to wake up on a saturday morning and be at work until 5:00 breaking down film and strategizing after getting your tail whooped the night before, but we do it. We do it because we are excited about what we did accomplish, and how much we can accomplish. The same principal applies to me in the classroom. The are days when I get my tail whooped (just by the daily activities). This job requires constant energy, constant effort. You have to be able to maintain a positive attitude about today, go to sleep, wake up and do the same thing tommorrow. Overall, It's pretty easy staying positive. I have great kids, teach at a great school, and love the content. Just like any other job though you're going to have your days. That's when you have to bear down and work really hard to stay motivated and have a positive attitude.

  40. Motivation for my student's is very different. I have an Autism Unit with behavior problems their ages range from 4 to 7. I use snacks as a motivation to get them to produce work. My classroom is structured and I am very consistence with my students, they follow a picture/object schedule. I give a lot of praises and high five's my student love it.

  41. Motivation is a drive or a desire. The motivation one has reflects the work they do.

My teacher attitude is to use my energy inside or with-in me in order to affect my student's.
My "energy" affects the quality of student's motivation, and motives, and the quality of the action-result which is productivity.

  42. I work w/ behavior students and motivation plays a big part. Whether it's getting them motivated with words of encouragement or positive reinforcement. My younger students are motivated by rewards such as free computer time or a good note home. My older students are motivated by what the future holds for them. I try to get them to think outside of the box and look forward to their future plans. Though they do look like their rewards as well.
My "teacher attitude" is to be positive and look for the good in each of my students. I run into some pretty hard days, but keeping a smile on my face and letting them know that I truly care for them and want them to succeed. "Be the change you wish to see in the world"-Ghandi

  43. Motivation, to me, is relating the information that I need to communicate to real life examples so that there will not only be extrinsic motivation but intrinsic motivation as well. My teacher attitude is that I believe that all of my students are capable of learning and it is up to me to find a way to help them learn it. No matter how frustrated I get from day to day I always keep the students needs first.

  44. Motivation to me is the ability to carry on and move forward through life. It is the inspiration you need to succeed and become a better student, teacher, and person. It is the drive to want to be great!
My Teacher attitude is a positive one and I transmit that energy to my kid’s everyday as they enter my room. I demonstrate to them that I am an understanding teacher that has patience and cares for their well being. Even though the BI unit class can be tough I always try to see the positive things that my kids do.

  45. Motivation is the amount of effort and willingness someone puts into a foreseen task. My "teacher attitude" changes by class, unfortunately. I attempt to stay positive and I believe that everyone is capable of learning, and I try to convey this to my class.

  46. Motivation is something that you desire that will get you to do something that you might not want to do other wise.

For me it helped to get to know my students and learn their likes and dislikes. I used things I knew they liked to help motivate them to try their best. A big part of motivation is the relationship you have with your students. Knowing them will help you know what motivates them.

My teacher attitde is I try to keep things postive. If you push and push they are more likly to shut down and are not be motivated to work for you. If I can get my students on a postive note espically after a couple failures it will get them motivated again to keep trying and not shut down.

  47. 1. Motivation is having the desire and will to try and learn.
    2. I try to relate to the students in order to create a working relationship. I ttry to motivate and encourage all my students that if they just try and put some effort in, they will succeed. That is more motivation that some of my students get at home.

  48. I would define motivation as "drive" - the desire to acheive. The article speaks about intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. I am not certain the author treats these types with sufficient detail. One major extrinsic motivation (at least in education in many countries) is the realization of the economic benefits of education. The educational transformation of India is a good example of this type of motivation. Intrinsically, students might also be led to realize that studying some less exciting science concepts will lead them to their more exciting goal of being a veterinarian, doctor, nurse or rocket scientist.

My teacher attitude is also based on one word - enthusiasm. I try to stress to the students that knowing stuff is cool. At the end of the day if I am not enthusiastic (or at least pretending to be excited about the topic) it is nearly a lost cause.

  49. Motivation is what the students give me as I plan and think about how to reach them. They are my direct motivation for what I do in order for them to get excited about learning. Motivation is the essence of why we decide to suceed, or try or continue. I use my best to enjoy and help the students enjoy the learning process.

  50. Motivation is having the ability to still feel enthusiastic about ones endeavors.

My teacher attitude is positive, because life is too short to have a negative attitude about your job.

  51. 1. In my opinion, motivation is characterized by one’s own drive to achieve anything one sets their mind to do.

Most of our actions are propelled by enthusiasm towards an incentive of any means. For example, one tends to look forward to a wonderful day as soon as we awake. Therefore we begin our day with a positive attitude.

As the day progresses, the acceptance of any situation that presents to him/her throughout the day will sure take a light note due to the positivity and incite one has generated.

    2. My “teacher attitude” is characterized by the positive reflection one can emit to a student.

There is no obstacle that cannot be overcome by instilling affirmative confidence toward the student.

If a student tells me he/she “can’t…” I immediately ask “why not?” arousing uncertainty in their idea. At that point, I spur my “teacher attitude” triggering and formulating the positivity the student needs to succeed.

  52. Motivation for me is the ability to get my students to learn and to turn in all their work. Motivation is having students wanting to come to my class because they know in thier mind and heart that they are going to enjoy the class. Unmotivated students don't care to learn. So as teacher we must do what ever it takes to motivate the students to learn.

  53. Motivation , in regards to students, is the eagerness to complete and learn a new or review and old concept, to gain mastery of the objective.
"Teacher Attitude" this is the catalysts to students becoming motivated with their own education. I like to think I teach with kindness and understanding, leaving room for children to learn from mistakes. ( Making mistakes a learning experience.)

  54. ugg.. yet another post I forgot!

    Here is the blog:

Basically motivation is both the internal want to 'learn' and know information and the positive influence of others to learn. In the WOW doctrine this would encompass genuine engagement and ritual compliance. Motivation for many of my students is very difficult. Many just do not care at all.

The Teacher Attitude is that ability to motivate your kids. I do get kids to work in my class and from what I hear some work for me and no others. The kids know that I try very hard to make the lessons 'fun' for them and to try to tie in cultural knowledge that is relevant for them. For example, I spent a lot of time this week talking about how the Mexican American War of 1846 was a catalyst for the deteriorating relations between hispanics and anglos and why this occurred. Students, I find, really do care about the lesson and concepts when they may actually have relationship to their lives.

  55. 1. Motivation is the desire and willingness to work towards a goal. Although, things may prove difficult and their is struggle while working towards the goal, what is important is we never give up. We get back up, continue and try again. 2. My teacher attitude is checked every morning. I try to recall the good that has been accomplished thus far and will be accmoplished in the future. My attitude tries to stay positive. I recognize my attitude is the one thing I can change in negative circumstances always. This is hope in my day and "Hope Floats".

  58. 1. Motivation means putting in effort in gaining knowledge and understanding, and it also means having the desire to pursue such knowledge and understanding.
    2. My teacher attitude is that I am very laid back. I’m very understanding of my students, and I try to cater to their needs while at the same time enforcing the rules. I allow informal language as long as it is not disrespectful to others, and I try to empathize with my students. I make sure to give rewards for good behavior and enforce consequences for bad behavior.

  59. To me motivation has to come from within , encouraging your students to do something and making them want to do it for themselves is motivation.

As a teacher I try to make the activities I do with my students fun and interesting. I definitely enforce consequences for bad behavior and I always encourage my students to do there best. I like to display their artwork in the halls and I find that this really motivates them to do better work !
