Blog #13
It's almost over! But I hope you will continue to learn more and more about your chosen (yep, you picked it) profession as you go. It is crucial that you maintain your own student status so that you never lose sight of what your kids feel like. In my doctoral class I just recently read Letters to those Who Dare to Teach by Paulo Freire. I highly suggest it. Great insight and validation for our profession.
For today's post...I want to know your school colors and your school mascot (i.e. Kerrville Tivy colors are blue and gold and the mascot is the Antler...). Why would I want you to know this? Because there is research that clearly indicates that students want to belong. For example, if they want to be part of a gang then why not their school "gang?" Perhaps creating a sense of community will help them belong in some way and help reduce that need to look for negative attention as their source of attention. Not perfect but perhaps it is a start. And the feeling of school pride and the love of learning can begin with you...even as the BI teacher, the AE teacher or their athletic coach. Your attitude is everything and the only thing you really can control!
And yes, we will have one more blog next week. See you for our last class on Monday, 2/8/2010!

Howdy! Please answer the following questions for this week's blog. At the next class we will be reviewing for your On-Going training final exam, PPR review and test taking strategies and information as well as talking about the Theorists and vocabulary you will see on the PPR exam. If you have missed more than one class and have not met with me and taken care of your make-up hours and make-up work then please email me (blmontoya@ccisd.us or dookietexas@yahoo.com) so we can plan your next steps. Thanks and see you Monday night, 1/25/10 at 6pm!
1. Reflect for a moment on your current teaching practice. What do you think is your largest area of professional growth since the beginning of your school year?
2. What do you think is your weakest area in your teaching practice? What are you planning to do to strengthen that area?
3. If you had one piece of advice for a new teacher based on your experience to date what would that advice be?

Hello! Please read the very brief article that follows. Think about how the outline here is similar and how it is different as compared to the Hunter lesson plan template. Reflect on how you prepare for lessons and write a brief statement of your lesson planning philosophy (don't have one? Now is the time to develop one whether you teach Biology, 6th grade math, Adaptive Ed or are the much needed Behavior Intervention specialist! Always have a plan!).

Our next class will focus on Special Education issues and we will be putting your portfolios together in class (I will bring everything you need so no worries). I know this is a busy time of year and you are swamped with work, home and other issues but I appreciate your time very much. There is light at the end of the Alt-Cert tunnel. We are almost there! See you on Monday, December 14th at 6pm!
